Fall Lookbook

Our new fall lookbook is up, and we were excited to be able to work with Tennessee blogger/photographer stars Amanda and Kate Pulley. They came to Atlanta for a few days, and Jamie shot a bunch of product shots in our studio and then went to the abandoned Candler Mansion to shoot some photos in one of the old '20s greenhouses.  It was the perfect place to shoot--eerie and dark, and the perfect backdrop for all of our fall silks and velvets.

The store is now officially stocked with lots of great cold weather vintage and some new pieces from Family Affairs and Secret Squirrel, so be sure to check it out!

Secret Squirrel in Frankie Magazine

I love this sweet little editorial in the latest issue of Frankie, featuring indie musicians wearing clothes from New Zealand and Australian labels. But maybe I love it most because of the Secret Squirrel dresses in the lower right photo.  We just got in our S.S. shipment for fall and should have the Gardenia dress in anytime now.

Fashion's Night Out

This weekend Silent Sundays will be holding its first ever pop-up shop at Fashion's Night Out here in Atlanta.  If you're in town be sure to stop on by!  We'll be selling a mix of summer and fall things, including discounted spring T.B.A., Secret Squirrel, and Family Affairs, and very possibly new fresh-off-the-boat Secret Squirrel.

Sale

We're slowly clearing out the store to make way for fall things, so be sure to check out our sale section for our favorite summer pieces and a few dresses from Secret Squirrel and Family Affairs.

Juliette Hogan

I always love New Zealand designer Juliette Hogan's collections, and her new campaign images (shot by New Zealand superstar photographer Guy Coombes) are pretty much perfection.  These clothes almost make me wish summer would never end.

Summer Stars

Alexa Chung, we love you, but this summer we're all about the casual, laid-back street style of Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams . . .

New in Vintage

New midsummer vintage pieces added to the store today. Pictured above are the Nathalie Plaid Sundress, Sybella Floral Smock Dress, and the Lucretia Floral Maxi Dress. Below are the Bobbie Pink Silk Top, Arabella Rose Print Maxi Skirt, and the 1990s Clarrissa Dungaree Dress.

...and last but not least, one of our favorite pieces, the Pale Blue Anita Shorts (from our midsummer lookbook) pictured below.

Madame Hawke Journal

One of these days I'll get my hands on one of the lovely journals put out by New Zealand label Madame Hawke. Their winter issue was a big inspiration with its seaside photos, and the fourth issue is looking to be just as good . . .

Midsummer Vintage

We added a big batch of vintage to the store on Monday, and already things are going fast, including our bathing suits and little silk tops and skirts.  Fortunately some of our favorite pieces are still available; I'm especially partial to our White Cotton Scarlet Dress above and the Grey Silk Eudora Midi Skirt below.  They're both perfect summer staples that will get you through any heatwave.

The Reckoner Dress

I finally got a chance to wear my Secret Squirrel Reckoner dress that I held on to this summer when we received our stock.  It was too good to let go of, and I'm glad I kept one because it's been a popular dress. We only have two left in stock so if you've been eyeing this particular one now's your chance to snap it up .

Midsummer Snapshots

Our new midsummer lookbook is now officially up on the site, and here are some behind the scenes photos I took while we were on the shoot in the little beach town of Navarre, Florida.  We were afraid the day would be rainy, but it turned out to be bright and sunny and Florida-hot, and we had to take a little break for drinks at a funny beachside cabana restaurant, where there were sailboats and volleyball players out back.

We were lucky to get the chance to work with Angela Longton.  She had just gotten back from modeling trips to Tokyo and New York before our shoot, but agreed to be our lookbook girl for July, and we couldn't have been happier.  She's adorable.

You can see the real lookbook photos on our site, and most of the clothes in the shoot are up for sale in the store.

Fall Preview: Secret Squirrel's Botanica

We're in love with the prints and little silk dresses in Secret Squirrel's new collection Botanica, and can't wait until our order comes in for fall. Until then you can get a little preview of the collection here.

Miss James in Silent Sundays

We love to see bloggers in Silent Sundays clothes, so when Miss James of Bleubird Vintage bought our vintage Stevie Dress we couldn't wait to see how she would style it. The result?  Perfect, right down to the Saltwater Sandals.  Doesn't her family look great too?

Midsummer Sale

From now until next week when the store gets restocked with lots of new vintage, everything is on sale at 25% off. New and vintage--all you have to do is enter in the code VACATION at checkout. Lots of sizes of our designer dresses are selling out fast, so be sure to snap up yours on sale while you can.

Hello, Lula.

Lula 12 is finally here in Atlanta, and I've been reading it bit by bit, trying to save up articles so it will last me a good week or two . . . .

Road trip, day 3

On Thursday we drove from Mississippi to Florida, to the little town of Navarre where we had a shoot. The beach was beautiful and not crowded, and whenever the sun felt too hot I just stepped into the water to look for sand dollars (I didn't find any whole ones).  Our model couldn't have been any better--she looked adorable in the clothes, and she told us all about her recent trip to Tokyo when we took a break at a funny little beachside cafe.  Right after the trip we went back to Mississippi for the night, and the next day we drove through Mobile and Montgomery and back to Georgia.

Road trip, day 2

Today we crossed into Louisiana to go shopping in New Orleans, another place where I've never been and spent the whole time staring out the window in awe of all the old buildings and oak tree-lined neighborhoods. Mostly we shopped--New Orleans has lots of good, big thrift stores, and we started out on Magazine Street, ate lunch with Jamie's mom and her friend Susan at a place called Joey K's. I had a migraine (they come at the worst times for me, I swear) but wanted to see everything too much to turn around. Lili's Vintage was my favorite (we got something there for tomorrow's shoot), and the massive thrift stores were maybe better than Atlanta's. After a long day of shopping we stopped at the French Quarter for beignets at the Cafe Du Monde, and as we walked I took a ton of photos like a tourist. And now that we're back in Mississippi I'm trying to think up a future trip to the place. I think I want to go sometime in fall, when it's not too hot for wandering around and getting lost in the French Quarter.

Road trip, day 1.

Jamie and I are currently on a little Silent Sundays vintage-buying adventure across the deep south, and today we went through (a stormy) Alabama and then went on to Mississippi, which I am loving so far. Highlights include the welcome center (fancy!), the town of Meridian (a town full of buildings and neighborhoods that look straight out of a William Eggleston photo), and the coast, where we are right now. Sorry for the blurry photos I took. Tomorrow we'll be sightseeing as well as shopping, and there'll be lots more photos.

Play it again, Summer

Because I'm a sucker for any sort of pastoral shoots from the '70s here's a little editorial from UK Vogue, found via one of my favorite blogs for vintage inspiration, Youthquakers. I just can't get enough of this sort of thing. Any editorial featuring a model who looks like a Thomas Hardy heroine transported to the 1970s is ok in my book.
